Grays Elite Sticks

Grays field hockey sticks are the overwhelming choice of field hockey players at all levels of the game, from elite U.S. National Team members to collegiate and high school athletes across the country.

Composite technology continues to move at a considerable pace and it is Grays' mission to lead this revolution.

Grays continues to work extensively to provide players with the consistent balance and feel they rely on from composite sticks which have been developed based on playability, performance and durability.

The unique three dimensional "O Port" design has increased the aerodymanic qualities along the mid blade, in comparsion with any convential shaped stick - as air can now dlow freely through the "O Ports." By improving the stick's energy efficiency and reducing the drag resistance, it allows the stick and ands to move more freely.

L.B.Z.The LBZ area was created specifically for the hitting technique, the Reverse Sweep! The LBZ is reinforced with Xtra-Tech to generate maximum power for this specific skill.

Stick Weight

Most players use a medium weight stick (M). Light sticks (L) are sometimes used by offensive players for quicker stickwork. Heavy sticks (H or T) are sometimes preferred by defensive players to increase the power of drives and the weight of the stick for tackling.
Light (L): 18.0 - 19.5 oz.
Medium (M): 19.5 - 20.5 oz.
Heavy (H or T): 20.5 + oz.

Stick Length

There are many theories regarding the best stick length for a player, but generally stick length is a function of height.
Up to 4': 29"
4'2" to 4'5": 31"
4'5" to 4'8": 32"
4'8" to 4'10": 33"
4'10 to 5'1": 34"
5'1" to 5'4": 35"
5'5" to 5'9": 36"
Over 5'9": 37" to 38"

About the Stick Toes

shorti toe pic Shorti Toe:
This classic shape provides a highly maneuverable toe. Ideal for high speed, close control and stick skills.
midi toe picture Midi Toe:
This tight head shape has been designed to help players' technique. It can 'roll over' the ball and offers excellent close control. Excellent sweetspot when hitting.

Maxi toe pic Maxi Toe:
Head shape combining the extra receiving surface of the hook with the hitting power of the midi. Excellent for drag-flicks and reverse stick control.
hook toe pic Hook Toe:
U-shaped head design offers significantly larger stopping surface for receiving passes and defending. Good for play on grass surfaces.

Reinforcing Components

Aramid Braid
Sleeve around entire stick provides uniform impact strength and shock resistance.

Polyethylene Tape
On stick's flat side. Allows for extreme strength and vibration dampening.

Carbon Tape
Applied to both sides of stick. Strength of fibers adds stiffness to deliver powerful hits.

Aramid Tape
Applied to both sides of stick. Strong material is also shock resistant for vibration dampening.

Glass Fibre Braid
Sleeve around entire stick adds to overall strength, durability, and ball speed.

Grays Turbo Techology

The Turbo series continues to set the trend for others to follow by incorporating the very latest technology. Features like the Powerbeam Technology and the Improved Feel Area (IFA) are designed to meet the demands of top players who wish to get the edge over their opponents.

Grays Scoop
The Scoop is designed for players who want extra control when dribbling and to be able to lift the ball easier when drag flicking. Players at all levels will find that the Scoop "cradles" the ball more easily when dribbling, without any loss of control when hitting or flicking.

Grays GX Composite Range
Grays has continued to develop their composite range of sticks for every level of the game. It is their use of hi-tech fibers specially formulated in the right directions and areas of the handle, blade and toe of each stick, that gives every model in the range its own individual playing characteristics.

Grays Superlite
The Superlite is for players who require a special light model so they can swing the stick faster and generate maximum power.
Composite Sticks at a Glance

Composite sticks offer greater striking power when hitting the ball and with the maxi toe construction give you greater lift for long flicks. Often used by defenders to allow for greater ease in transitioning the ball to attacking players the composite range has been our fastest growing group of sticks. Grays offers composite sticks for all levels of play; from the GX750 for beginners, all the way up to the GX8000 for elite advanced players. Check out our line for the right composite stick for you!
